NTPC Simhadri at the forefront to fulfil the demand of power generation

The demand for power is expected to continue in the near future and NTPC Simhadri is fully geared up to meet the challenges and meet the requirement of the nation with our ability said GGM (Business Unit Head) of NTPC Sanjay Kumar Sinha.

Interacting with the media persons at NTPC’s annual event here on Friday, he said our presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business speaks volumes about our capacity to deliver and excel. Being a jewel in the crown of NTPC, we produce power of 2,000 MW of thermal and 25MW of floating solar capacity.

NTPC-Simhadri is the first coastal based thermal power plant of NTPC which uses sea water for condenser cooling and ash handling there by saving precious water. NTPC-Simhadri generated 12,569.6 million units (MU) up to March 20 in the financial year 2022-23 with 72.14 per cent Plant Load Factor (PLF), he added.

Sharing details of the upcoming projects, Sanjay Kumar Sinha said apart from the existing infrastructure, the  Green Energy Park Project (Green Hydrogen Hub) with an investment of Rs. 1.1 lakh crore to produce energy from Hydrogen is coming up at Pudimadaka in Anakapalle district on 1200 acres of land which was earlier allotted by APIIC.

The first phase is proposed to be completed by 2026 and second by 2030. Once it is in operational, it will create more than 60000 employment opportunities, especially to the local people. Towards this end, MoU was signed at the Global Investors Summit (GIS) between the Andhra Pradesh and NTPC.

Green hydrogen is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using an electrolyser powered by renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. The fuel can be a game changer for the energy security of India, which imports 85 percent of its oil and 53 percent of gas requirements.

The green energy project has been envisioned to reduce coal imports and to promote green energy. Also, it will create an ecosystem for hydrogen energy, including the production of hydrogen related components and green hydrogen. The project is divided into Industrial area and Hydrogen area.
