Poorna market shutters are down for 12 hours for the first time in 90 years

Poorna Market, Visakhapatnam's main market, has a 90-year history. Apart from the Covid-19 lockdown, it has never been completely closed in its 90-year history. For the first time, it was completely shut down for 12 hours yesterday, as traders chose to protest by closing their businesses.

The market association's members, including traders, shopkeepers, and workers, staged a 12-hour protest demanding the eviction of unauthorized hawkers from the surrounding areas.

According to the members of the association, there has been a significant increase in the number of unauthorized hawkers selling outside the market, resulting in a decrease in business for authorized traders and shopkeepers. They demanded that the authorities take immediate action to resolve the problem.
