RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE, WALTAIR CELEBRATED 39TH RAISING DAY

Visakhapatnam: Railway Protection Force Raising Day marks a significant milestone in the force's growth, celebrated with enthusiasm by its members who express joy with the community and reaffirm their commitment to public service and well-being said Ch. Raghuveer Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF, Waltair.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday on the concluding day of 39th RPF Raising Day Ch. Raghuveer said we play the crucial role in guaranteeing passenger safety.

RPF, initially founded in 1957 to protect railway assets, received expanded powers in 1966, allowing it to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those engaged in railway property offenses. Acknowledging its significance, the force was later granted the status of "An Armed Force of the Union" on September 20, 1985, via a parliamentary amendment to the RPF Act.

Sharing achievements and accomplishments of RPF, Raghuveer mentioned that on a daily basis, they proactively launch initiatives to combat illicit activities, safeguard railway assets, improve security measures, and ensure the safety of railway passengers.

He further highlighted that the RPF is among India's top protection forces and that, in addition to their primary responsibilities, they have extended their assistance to passengers in various situations. This includes returning lost belongings and valuable items like mobile phones, laptops, jewelry, cash, and more.

Raghuveer commended the RPF personnel for their outstanding dedication to serving the nation.
Raguvir highlighted that within our jurisdiction, where we have a staff of 850 members, we have achieved significant success in combating illegal trafficking and locating missing children. In addition, we have conducted extensive public awareness campaigns to educate people about the dangers of trespassing and other unforeseen incidents.

Over the past year, we successfully recovered 334 pieces of luggage valued at Rs 76,39,224/-. Furthermore, we retrieved items such as gold, silver, liquor, and cigarettes, totaling approximately Rs 1,31,94,688/-. We also detected 62 cases involving the recovery of contraband articles weighing a total of 1482.39 kgs, valued at Rs 81,68,500/-. These efforts led to the arrest of 109 individuals.

Moreover, Raghuveer detailed the range of measures implemented by the RPF to augment the safety and security of train journeys for passengers. He thanked the entire RPF force for the exceptional efforts in thwarting various illicit activities, including human trafficking, transportation of narcotics, and other unlawful behaviors, both aboard trains and at railway stations.

To commemorate RPF Raising Day, a week-long program is being held in the Waltair Division, featuring activities such as tree planting and public awareness programs.
