Rapid Progress in Tunnel Construction on Visakhapatnam's KK Line
Visakhapatnam has achieved a significant milestone in the construction of tunnels on the Kothavalasa-Araku section of the KK line with the successful blasting of the 1.4-km-long Tunnel No. 5 between Boddavara and Shivalingpuram.
The project, supervised by Divisional Railway Manager Waltair Saurabh Prasad, is part of the ongoing efforts to double the railway line by March 2026.
This tunnel is the fourth of six planned tunnels in the challenging Boddavara-Shivalingpuram section.
The section's difficult terrain, characterized by condolite rocks and sandstone soil, highlights the complexity of the project.
This initiative aims to enhance the speed and efficiency of railway operations in the region, providing vital infrastructure for future transportation needs.
DRM Saurabh Prasad, accompanied by ADRM Sudhir Gupta, Deputy Chief Engineer Rajeev Kumar, and other divisional officers, monitored the close coordination between construction and divisional teams.
This collaboration has streamlined operations and expedited the construction process.
So far, 96.45 km of the 189-km-long Koraput-Kothavalasa section has been completed.
The division is expected to surpass the 100-km mark by August 15th with the commissioning of the Gorapur-Darliput section.
The efficient coordination between construction and divisional officials has been crucial in managing freight traffic and providing necessary blocks for blasting, thereby accelerating the construction of tunnels along the KK line.
