Recession Fears Might Put an End to Our American Dream
Large and multinational corporations are reducing their workforces due to recession fears. Since the last quarter, new hiring has witnessed a rapid drop. The Marco economic conditions at the global level are causing a stir in the Indian workforce as well, with the majority of employees affected being techies. Well-known companies such as Meta, Amazon, Twitter, Uber, and others began mass layoffs.
Recently, a survey revealed that almost 80 percent of laid-off individuals found a new job within three months, which is at least good news amid these recession fears. But it doesn't stop there; 2023 will be a year of massive layoffs in the technology industry. The same applies to the H1-B visa as well; during the past few months, the number of jobs drastically fell, and it might be very difficult to find a job in the USA.
With Google and tech firms moving forward with the layoffs and a proposed US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) fee rule set to increase the application fee for H1-B visas for high-skilled workers by 70 percent, amounting to $780, and H1-B visa petitioners now needing to pay $215 in pre-registration fees, H1-B visa holders will be adversely affected and might put an end to our American dream.
