Revamp Underway: Shivaji Park in Visakhapatnam to Get a ₹2 Crore Makeover
Shivaji Park in MVP Colony is undergoing a major transformation as the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) initiates development work with a budget of ₹2 crore to enhance the overall experience for visitors.
Over the years, the park's walking track, play equipment, toilets, amphitheatre, shelters, and even the drinking water facility have suffered damage and neglect.
Numerous complaints from walkers and residential welfare associations highlighted concerns about poor sanitation in the park.
Addressing these issues, the GVMC commenced development work in June, investing the estimated ₹2 crore budget to revamp the park.
The project includes repairs to the skating rink, restoration of the water fountain, and improvements to the central plaza, entrance arch, and Open Air Theatre (OAT).
GVMC Superintending Engineer (Public Works) Satyanarayana Raju shared that several upgrades have already been completed.
The park will feature three new modern toilets, a renovated canteen, and enhanced greenery and landscape development.
Shivaji Park, initially a dumping yard, was transformed into a park by the GVMC in the 1990s, spanning 16 acres.
A popular recreational spot for residents of MVP Colony, Shivajipalem, and Waltair, the park's skating arena has hosted various competitions at district, state, and national levels over the years.
