Visakhapatnam has begun the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign, a month-long initiative focused on cleanliness and environmental awareness across the city.
The campaign runs from September 17 to October 17, with GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg scheduled to inaugurate the city programme at GR Nagar Colony in the East Zone.
The initiative will involve GVMC employees, students, youth, NGOs, resident welfare associations, sanitation workers and citizens in cleanliness and awareness activities.
Special attention will be given to Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs), public places, markets, residential colonies, tourist locations and water bodies.
The campaign also includes Swachh Paathshala–Yuva for Swachhata, aimed at involving students and young people in cleanliness activities.
A SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir will focus on the health, safety and welfare of sanitation workers.
Under Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata, citizens will be encouraged to participate directly in cleanliness activities.
The campaign will also promote Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) practices, waste segregation, home composting and reduction of single-use plastics.
A city-wide ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ cleanliness drive is planned for October 1, followed by special cleanliness and awareness programmes on Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2.
The national campaign carries the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” emphasising collective participation and shared responsibility for cleanliness.
