Torn currency notes were found scattered on the road opposite Central Park in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday morning.

Police reached the spot after morning walkers alerted officials and collected the damaged notes and other documents.

According to the subsequent police investigation, the notes belonged to Adimulam Surya Rao, a resident of the KGH area.

Police said Rao, who supplies goods to grocery stores, had kept cash and LIC receipts in a cardboard box at his home.

The money was reportedly damaged by termites, after which Rao decided to dispose of the notes. CCTV footage helped police trace where the currency had been dumped.

The damaged currency included ₹50, ₹20 and ₹10 notes, with the total value estimated at around ₹3,000. Police said the notes were damaged and unfit for circulation.

LIC receipts and a PAN card were also found along with the currency.

 

Police later returned the damaged notes and documents to Rao after completing their inquiry.
