The Visakhapatnam Bar Association Election Results have been Announced
On February 24th, elections for the Visakhapatnam Bar Association (VBA), Andhra Pradesh's largest professional body for lawyers, were held for the positions of president, secretary, vice president, treasurer, sports and cultural secretary, library secretary, joint secretary, women's representative, and eight EC members. A total of 3,042 valid voters (advocates), including 676 female advocates, voted to elect the new office-bearers, who will serve for one year until March 2024. Among the promises made by the candidates were efforts to complete pending works and the inauguration of a new criminal court complex building near the district court premises, improved sanitation on the court premises, the establishment of a dispensary for advocates, and professional activities.
On the same day, the election results were announced. Rambabu Chintapalli was elected president with a 609-vote majority after receiving 1213 votes. B.S. Latha is elected vice president with 720 votes, 66 more than her rivals. Srinivasa Rao Pyla is the new General Secretary; he received 1482 votes and defeated his opponents by a massive margin of 1016 votes. Durga Prasad Dharmala was elected as the new Joint Secretary with 1056 votes, 60 more than his opponent. Bhaskara Rao CH was elected treasurer with 972 votes, 358 more than his opponents. Archna Chintada was elected library secretary after receiving 1076 votes and defeating her opponents by a margin of 552 votes. Sailaja Prakruthi was elected sports secretary with 1193 votes, 341 more than her opponent. Full-fledged campaigning, from door-to-door visits to social media campaigns, has been seen in recent days to reach out to voters. In the district court complex, advocates lack amenities such as clean restrooms, waiting rooms, canteens, and a few others. Some of the advocates suggested that the new VBA team would perhaps concentrate on these issues.
