VIIT Raises Awareness on Cybersecurity in Visakhapatnam

In an effort to combat the rising tide of cybercrimes, Vignan’s Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) hosted a crucial awareness program on cybersecurity in Visakhapatnam.

Held on a Friday, the event shed light on the growing prevalence of online fraud, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Group Captain Anand Naidu from the Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (ISAC) took the stage to delve into the intricacies of online frauds.

He emphasized the alarming surge in cybercrimes, attributing it to the widespread adoption of smartphones and computers.

Naidu urged attendees to exercise caution when dealing with messages and links from unfamiliar sources.

Echoing Naidu's concerns, Institution Rector V Madhusudhana Rao highlighted the role of trust in facilitating cybercrimes.

He cautioned against sharing sensitive account information with unknown entities, stressing the need for vigilance to safeguard against financial losses.

Rao further underscored that cybercriminals target individuals across all demographics, including students, housewives, and educated professionals.

As part of the event, VIIT solidified its commitment to cybersecurity by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ISAC, marking a significant step towards fostering collaboration in combating online threats.

The program saw active participation from Principal J Sudhakar, students, and other members of the VIIT staff, underscoring the collective effort required to address the challenges posed by cybercrimes.
