Visakhapatnam Startup Illuminates with Innovative Roshini Lantern
A promising startup in Visakhapatnam, Yallas Technologies Solutions Pvt. Ltd., spearheaded by entrepreneur Y Bhagya Lakshmi, is on the brink of revolutionizing lighting solutions with their latest innovation - Roshini.
This pioneering technology, developed domestically, marks India's debut in saline water-based illumination. Roshini harnesses the power of seawater as an electrolyte, seamlessly illuminating LED lamps through specially crafted electrodes.
The brains behind Roshini hail from the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, where Dr. Purnima Jalihal, head of the energy and fresh water group, conceived this groundbreaking concept.
The technology, now under the purview of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), has been meticulously patented and protected for commercialization.
Dr. BK Sahu, heading NRDC-Visakhapatnam, lauds Roshini for its remarkable affordability and portability. Operating on seawater or a simple saline solution mixed with tap water, Roshini epitomizes sustainable and accessible technology.
Dr. Bhavya Manjeera, assistant manager at NRDC-Vizag, has played a pivotal role in advancing the commercialization efforts of this innovative lantern.
In a recent international symposium, NRDC CMD Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd) and Y Bhagya Lakshmi showcased Roshini to esteemed dignitaries including Kathi Vidal, the United States Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property, and USPTO Director;
John Cabeca, the United States IP Counselor to South Asia; and Mr. Christopher W. Hodges from the US Consulate General in Chennai.
This presentation underscores the global significance of Roshini as a beacon of sustainable lighting solutions, poised to illuminate communities worldwide.
