Aerial Afforestation: Chopper Set to Scatter Seed Balls Across Visakhapatnam's Hills
Visakhapatnam: Taking a novel approach to boost greenery, a helicopter will take to the skies to disperse seed balls across the city's hilly terrain.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is gearing up for this unique initiative, scheduled to kick off on October 2, commemorating Gandhi Jayanti.
The initial phase of the project involves identifying suitable hilly areas within the city's limits, and the GVMC is currently in the process of this assessment. GVMC Commissioner C M Saikanth Varma has instructed municipal officials to pinpoint the hills that meet the criteria for the endeavor.
As part of the initiative, seven hills will be selected as the focal points for seed ball distribution. The Municipal Commissioner recently held discussions with Commando Deepak Singh and Captain Raj Kumar at INS Dega to garner support from naval officers for this project.
To date, the GVMC has identified several areas across the city, including Pavuralakonda and Kapulappada hills in the Bheemunipatnam constituency, Simhachalam hill, Porlupalem hill near the Meghadrigedda reservoir, Yarada hills, and Vedurla Narava Konda, for the seed ball distribution.
The initiative aligns with the municipality's broader goal of enhancing the city's green cover. It aims to execute the seed ball dispersal during the rainy season to maximize its effectiveness in promoting vegetation growth.
This innovative approach not only contributes to environmental conservation but also showcases a collaborative effort between civic authorities and the naval personnel to foster a greener and more sustainable future for Visakhapatnam.
As the chopper takes flight to sow the seeds of greenery, the city takes another step towards a healthier and more vibrant ecosystem.
