The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has embarked on an ambitious road expansion project encompassing 27 major roads and routes within the city.

The decision to undertake these critical infrastructure enhancements comes as a response to the rising traffic congestion in various zones. With an estimated expenditure of approximately ₹150 crore, these development projects aim to significantly improve public convenience and road connectivity in Visakhapatnam.

One of the noteworthy and long-awaited projects is the extension of the road from Jagadamba Junction to Old Post Office Junction in the One Town area. This particular endeavor, eagerly anticipated by residents, commenced several weeks ago and is progressing at a rapid pace.

Additionally, other crucial road expansion projects include the stretch from Polamamba Temple to the Government Hospital for Mental Care (GHMC) leading up to Beach Road, Akkayyapalem Road, the Gajuwaka 100-foot road, Kanithi Road, K. Nagarampalem to NH-16 road, Visalakshi Nagar Road, Jodugullapalem, Sithakonda, and the BRTS Road from NAD Junction to Pendurthi.

The GVMC has also extended its development efforts to Pendurthi, Gajuwaka, and Anakapalli areas.

Furthermore, significant development work is underway in Madhurawada, Rushikonda, and Bheemunipatnam areas, encompassing several key routes.

Explaining the necessity of these road expansion projects, a senior officer from the GVMC pointed out that the city has been witnessing an annual influx of at least 40,000 new vehicles.

Coupled with the substantial growth and increased VVIP movement in recent years, these infrastructure enhancements are crucial to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety.

Amid speculation surrounding the possible relocation of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) to Visakhapatnam during the Dasara festival, officials from the YSRCP, including Regional Coordinator Y.V. Subba Reddy, have confirmed these plans and emphasized the ongoing efforts towards that goal.

However, it is important to note that the road expansion proposals have been in the pipeline for quite some time and are being undertaken primarily for the convenience and benefit of the public.

These projects were planned and initiated under the guidance of the new Commissioner and in response to the city's evolving infrastructure needs.

Additionally, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is also actively engaged in road extension projects at various locations, further contributing to the city's overall development and connectivity.
