A hair-cutting incident involving 10 Class IX students at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Bheemili has raised concerns over the safety and supervision of students at the residential school.

The incident reportedly occurred during the night of September 16, when the students were asleep in two hostel rooms. The next morning, six students in one room and four in another noticed that parts of their hair had been cut. The students subsequently informed the school authorities.

The school has around 38 Class IX students staying in the two rooms. Following the incident, officials inspected the premises and examined the security arrangements, including CCTV footage. Reports indicate that there was no evidence of an outsider entering the campus.

Authorities are examining whether fellow students were involved in the incident. The investigation is also looking into the circumstances inside the hostel and the supervision arrangements during the night. Police have spoken to students as part of the inquiry.

Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao visited the KGBV and interacted with students and their parents. He also sought details from school authorities and called for the circumstances surrounding the incident to be examined.

Officials have engaged two counsellors to support the students following the incident. Show-cause notices were also issued to the KGBV principal, two teachers who were on duty that night and the night watchwoman, seeking explanations regarding the incident and the supervision arrangements.

The investigation is continuing, with authorities looking into how the hair-cutting took place and whether any lapses occurred in the hostel’s supervision and security arrangements.
