GVMC Approves Over 300 Firecracker Stalls Across Visakhapatnam for Deepavali

Visakhapatnam is gearing up for Deepavali, with the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) granting permission for more than 300 temporary firecracker stalls across different parts of the city.

According to GVMC Regional Fire Officer B. Ramprakash, permissions were issued after scrutinising applications, verifying the submitted details and ensuring that the prescribed requirements were met.

Alternative Locations Identified at Andhra University

This year, the Andhra University Engineering College Grounds will not be available for firecracker stalls due to preparations for the upcoming CII Partnership Summit, scheduled to begin on November 13.

To accommodate traders, authorities have identified alternative locations within the university campus:

  • Near Polamamba Temple

  • Andhra University Football Ground near the out-gate

These two locations are expected to accommodate approximately 150–160 stalls.

Other Locations Across the City

Temporary firecracker stalls are also planned at several other locations, including:

  • Adarsha Grounds, Gajuwaka

  • Pendurthi

  • Sujatha Nagar

  • Madhurawada

  • Kailasagiri

The designated locations are intended to provide convenient access to firecracker markets for residents across different parts of Visakhapatnam.

Safety Measures and Inspections

Authorities are emphasising compliance with fire safety requirements at all temporary stalls. The police and Fire Services Department are also strengthening inspections of firecracker storage facilities, warehouses and temporary sales outlets.

Officials have warned against unauthorised storage and sale of firecrackers, particularly in residential areas. Traders have been advised to operate only with valid permissions and follow the prescribed safety conditions.

Deepavali Preparations in Vizag

With more than 300 authorised stalls planned across the city, the arrangements aim to facilitate festive shopping while maintaining public safety.

Residents are advised to purchase firecrackers only from licensed outlets and follow safety instructions during celebrations.
