Visakhapatnam Port Signs Agreement for WQ-6 Berth Revamp
Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has taken a significant step towards enhancing its cargo handling capabilities with the signing of a concession agreement for the semi-mechanisation of the West Quay-6 (WQ-6) terminal.
The agreement, inked with M/s Integrated Cargo Terminal Private Limited, a subsidiary SPV of Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL Group), marks a crucial milestone in the port's expansion plans.
The project entails the revamping of the existing WQ-6 berth, equipped with two new harbour mobile cranes (HMC) and other handling equipment. With an investment of Rs 165.70 crore, the facility aims to bolster the port's capacity to handle dry bulk cargo, catering to a throughput of 5.18 MMTPA.
Notably, the terminal boasts a strategic advantage with additional storage areas for cargo, ensuring efficient operations.
Scheduled for completion within 18 months from the date of concession award, the project is set to create around 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities, further contributing to the region's economic growth.
In other news, the Visakhapatnam Port table tennis team showcased its prowess at the 45th All India Major Ports Table Tennis Championship, clinching gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The VPA Chairperson commended the players, including GVS Rama Rao, for their outstanding performance, reinforcing the port's commitment to excellence on and off the field.
